Texas Longhorns Ex Arterio Morris Arrested, Dismissed by Kansas Jayhawks

In this story:
Former Texas Longhorns guard Arterio Morris has been dismissed by the Kansas Jayhawks following his arrest Friday morning due to a rape charge, per an announcement from The University of Kansas.
Per reports from The Kansas City Star, Morris was booked into a Douglas County jail and charged with one count of rape. His bond is set at $75,000.
“When we learned of allegations regarding Arterio Morris, he was suspended from the Kansas men’s basketball program," Kansas coach Bill Self said in a release. "We are now aware he has been arrested and charged, and he was dismissed from the program. As this is an ongoing legal matter, we are not able to comment further at this time.”
Morris was suspended by Kansas on Sept. 15 after a rape accusation had been reported to the university's police department.
Morris transferred to Kansas this offseason after spending his freshman season at Texas, but his career in Austin was clouded with controversy before it began. He was arrested by Frisco Police in early June 2022 before being charged with misdemeanor assault after a physical altercation with his ex-girlfriend, according to police records.
Both the university and former Texas coach Chris Beard never suspended Morris headed into the season, and the topic was not addressed by the team or coaching staff after Beard's own arrest and eventual firing quickly became the story of the season in December.
Morris averaged 4.6 points and 1.4 rebounds in 11.8 minutes per contest while appearing off the bench in all 38 games for the Longhorns last season. He showed promising flashes as a freshman, which included a 25-point performance in a win over Louisiana on Dec. 21.
However, the future of the former five-star is now uncertain.
Texas begins its season at home against Incarnate Word on Monday, Nov. 6.
