The Texas Longhorns are one step closer to knowing where their March Madness journey will begin.

The Division I men's basketball committee revealed the current top 16 seeds in the tournament field for March Madness on Saturday. If the season ended today, these 16 teams would earn at least a No. 4 seed. Teams 1 through 4 are projected No. 1 seeds, team 5 through 8 are projected No. 2 seeds and so on.

The Longhorns found themselves coming up just short of a No. 1 seed, as they were the fifth-ranked team behind the four No. 1 seeds, making them the projected highest No. 2 seed. Alabama, Houston, Purdue and Kansas rounded out the top four, respectively, meaning all four would earn a No. 1 seed in the tournament if the current results hold.

But of course, there's still plenty of season left to decide where each team will land.

Here is the full top-16 rankings:

  1. Alabama (22-4)
  2. Houston (24-2)
  3. Purdue (23-4)
  4. Kansas (21-5)
  5. Texas (20-6)
  6. Arizona (23-4)
  7. Baylor (20-6)
  8. UCLA (22-4)
  9. Tennessee (20-6)
  10. Virginia (20-4)
  11. Iowa State (17-8)
  12. Kansas State (19-7)
  13. Indiana (18-8)
  14. Marquette (21-6)
  15. Gonzaga (22-5)
  16. Xavier (19-7)

The Longhorns host the Oklahoma Sooners at Moody Center on Saturday.
