Longhorns Earn No. 2 Seed in NCAA Tournament, Will Play No. 15 Colgate

The NCAA revealed the official matchups for the Round of 64 on Sunday, as the Texas Longhorns secured the No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region for March Madness.

The Texas Longhorns officially punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament on Saturday after taking down the Kansas Jayhawks to win the Big 12 Tournament title.

And on Sunday, the NCAA revealed the official matchups for the Round of 64, as the Longhorns secured the No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region. They will play the No. 15 seed Colgate Raiders in Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday.

Texas is a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2008. The Longhorns made it all the way to the Elite 8 before falling to the Memphis Tigers.

The Longhorns finished the regular season as the No. 7 team in the country after posting a 26-8 record.

Colgate won both the Patriot League regular-season title and the conference tournament, finishing with a 26-8 record as well. Led by guard Tucker Richardson, the Raiders have five players averaging at least 10 points per game.

While nothing is guaranteed, Texas' part of the bracket sets up a potential interesting matchup in the Round of 32. The seventh-seeded Texas A&M Aggies will play the No. 10 Penn State Nittany Lions. The winner will play either Texas or Colgate in the second round.

The Longhorns and Aggies have 142 all-time meetings, with Texas winning the most recent matchup 60-50 in 2019.

But before getting too far ahead, Texas will need to handle business against Colgate.
