Texas Longhorns' Max Abmas Named to Preseason All-Big 12 First Team

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Longhorns guard Max Abmas has been named to the Preseason All-Big 12 First Team, per an announcement Thursday. Abmas is entering his first season at Texas after transferring from Oral Roberts this offseason.
Here's the entire Preseason All-Big 12 First Team:
- Max Abmas, Texas
- L.J. Cryer, Houston
- Hunter Dickinson, Kansas
- Dajuan Harris, Kansas
- Emanuel Miller, TCU
Abmas was one of the most sought-after players in the portal this offseason. He's the NCAA's active career scoring leader (2,561). He averaged 21.9 points (ninth in the nation), 4.4 rebounds and four assists last season while shooting 43.6 percent from the field. He blew up on the national stage in March Madness after leading Oral Roberts to the Sweet 16 during the 2020-21 season, averaging 26.6 points per game during those three games in the NCAA Tournament.
Abmas now looks to take the Longhorns back to the NCAA Tournament in the first full year under coach Rodney Terry. Last season, Terry led Texas to an Elite Eight appearance, but the Longhorns came up short against the Miami Hurricanes, 88-81.
Tyrese Hunter and Abmas will be arguably one of college basketball's top guard duos this season. It only adds to the excitement that a bouncy athlete like UT-Arlington transfer guard Chendall Weaver will be coming off the bench behind them during his second collegiate season
Texas begins its season on Monday, Nov. 6 at home against Incarnate Word. The Longhorns open up Big 12 play on Saturday, Jan. 6 at home against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
