No. 4 Longhorns Cruise Past Northern Arizona in Edinburg, Move to 4-0

The Texas Longhorns made the most of their trip to the Rio Grande Valley.

The No. 4 Texas Longhorns handled business Monday night in a home game away from home, cruising past the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 73-48 in Edinburg, TX at the Leon Black Classic.

Texas (4-0) joined the UTRGV Vaqueros as hosts of the event in the Rio Grande Valley to honor the former Texas player and assistant. Safe to say the Horns honored Black in dominating fashion, as they shot 50 percent from the field and forced 21 turnovers.

The Longhorns were led by guard Marcus Carr (17 points, four assists) while freshman  guard Arterio Morris added 11 points off the bench.

NAU was led by guard Xavier Fuller, who was the only player in double figures for the Lumberjacks with 15 points while adding six rebounds.

Texas jumped out to a 20-8 lead after Morris hit back-to-back 3s midway through the first half. Carr added eight straight points a few minutes later after consecutive 3s of his own.

With a 30-point lead already before halftime. Longhorns coach Chris Beard gave some freshmen besides Morris and Mitchell early playing time, as a 3 from Alex Anamekwe gave Texas a 50-22 lead headed into half.

A hot start for Carr continued into the second half, as he made another 3-pointer two minutes after coming out of the locker room.

Morris and Mitchell had a pair of and-ones in the second half. Both added dunks a minute apart from one another as well to help balloon the lead.

But from there, the Longhorns continued to cruise and were able to empty the bench. Anamekwe highlighted the blowout win with a steal and breakaway dunk in the closing minutes.
