Texas Longhorns Baseball Ranked No. 16 in D1 Baseball Top 25 Preseason Poll

Texas Longhorns Baseball clinched the No. 16 ranking in the D1 Baseball Top 24 Preseason Poll ahead of the team's season opener on February 16th against San Diego.

Today, D1 Baseball released its preseason Top 25 list and the Texas Longhorns are sitting at No. 16. The Longhorns' 2023 success shines with a record of 42-22 (15-9 in the Big 12) making it to the Super Regionals for the third year in a row and winning a share of the Big 12 regular season title.

Unfortunately, it's the season-ending 7-6 loss in Game 3 of the Super Regional NCAA at Stanford most people remember.

In 2024, key pieces are returning in the pitching duo of Tanner Witt and Lebarron Johnson Jr. and left fielder Porter Brown as well as Jared Thomas anchoring first for Texas.

The Longhorns managed to bring in several players from the transfer portal as well.

From the JUCO ranks in Casey Cummings and three cannon arms - Will Rigney from Baylor, Will Mercer from Notre Dame and Oliver Santos from Duke. Another Duke addition, Luke Storm will join Porter Brown and Cummings manning the outfield.

While the lineup is stacked, the Longhorns also lost several players in the offseason to the transfer portal including starting SS Mitchell Daly, RHP DJ Burke, RHP Kobe Minchey, LHP Chris Stuart, and OF Collin Valentine. Hopefully, the new transfer portal pieces will make up for some significant losses.

Just one year away from the SEC, the Longhorns regular season schedule will see many Top 25 schools like LSU, Texas A&M, and Vanderbilt, giving Texas fans a bit of a preview of what is to come.

The Horns will continue playing Big 12 schools with TCU boasting the best ranking at No. 5.
