Longhorns SS Leighann Goode Named Freshman All-American

After former Texas pitcher Shea O'Leary was named an honorable mention All-American by Softball America after her 2019 season, the Longhorns encountered a dry spell in receiving the All-American title - but on Tuesday, the dry spell was broken.
Leighann Goode, shortstop and second baseman, was recognized on Tuesday as the first freshman Texas athlete in program history to be named the Division 1 Softball Freshman All-American.
In her first season on the Forty Acres, Goode swung .325 and upheld a .552 slugging percentage in 203 official plate appearances. Forty-one RBIs and eight home runs later, Goode has made Texas softball program history.
Defensively, Goode was all over the field - literally. Starting at least one game in six different defensive field positions, she achieved a .986 fielding percentage and aided in 14 double plays.
From the start of the 2023 season, Goode has always kept Longhorn fans on the edge of their seats. With a 10-game hitting streak at the beginning of the softball season, Goode set a Longhorn freshman record that was previously held by former Texas softball infielder Janae Jefferson with an eight-game hitting streak.
The San Antonio native, who was placed on the 2023 TUCCI/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year Top 25 List, scored five runs earlier in the season on Feb. 26 against Texas Southern that aided Texas' 22-0 and five inning victory. Those five runs by Goode etched her name in Texas softball's single-game record book.
Goode was one of only three Big 12 Conference student-athletes who were recognized on the All-American freshman team.
