Longhorns Part Ways Pitching Coach Woody Williams

For the second straight year, the Texas Longhorns baseball program will be on the hunt for a new pitching coach.
A report from D1 Baseball reported that Woody Williams and the Longhorns will be going down separate paths this upcoming season. Even after only one season as Texas' pitching coach, the former MLB pitcher, who was named to the All-Star Game in 2003, will be departing from the 40 Acres.
Roughly a year ago, Williams was hired to replace longtime assistant, Sean Allen, who served under David Pierce at both Sam Houston State and Tulane University before joining him at Texas
During his only season with the Longhorns, Williams helped Texas claim the No. 10 slot nationally with a staff ERA of 4.18 and aided in developing Lucas Gordon into the Big 12's pitcher of the year. Both Gordon and Lebarron Johnson Jr. were ranked within the top four pitchers of the Big 12 conference in both strikeouts and ERA.
The Longhorns did lack reliability with their bullpen, however. After returning from his Tommy John surgery just last year, Tanner Witt compiled a 10.97 ERA in only six starts.
Beginning Saturday, the NCAA will allow college baseball teams to appoint a third full-time assistant coach. This means that Pierce, who is approaching his eighth year on the Forty Acres, will be searching for additional expertise to add to the Longhorns' coaching staff, along with a replacement for Williams.
