This Week In Texas Longhorns Sports: Big 12 Championship Incoming?

The Texas Longhorns have some very intriguing sporting events taking place on the field, court, or even in the water this week.

While football is no longer in season, Texas' athletic department is in full swing across a handful of other sports.

Spanning from men's and women's hoops, to golf, to baseball and softball which are both recently started their year. For every sport on the docket, they will get their week started on Tuesday or Wednesday depending on their schedule. We here at Longhorns Country will keep you covered and informed on everything you need to know that is going on around the 40 Acres.

Let's take a look at which teams are in action this week and what is at stake for those who are later in the season.

Sport: Men's & Women's Swimming and Diving

Event: Big 12 Championships

Where: Morgantown, West Virginia

When: Tuesday/Wednesday 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Kicking the sporting week off for Texas is the men's and women's swimming and diving teams. They are in Morgantown, West Virginia for the time trials which will take place on Tuesday. It will stretch into Wednesday, which is when the prelims will be taking place. Both are a part of the Big 12 Championships.

Sport: Men's Golf

Event: Southern Highlands Collegiate

Where: Nevada, Las Vegas 

When: Tuesday/Wednesday 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

After finishing tied for seventh on Monday out of 15 squads, the Longhorns will look to bounce back on Tuesday. The Longhorns are looking for their third first-place finish this season counting the first day of the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational and the lone day of the Big 12 Match Play Tournament.

Sport: Baseball 

Where: Austin, Texas

When: Tuesday 6:30 p.m. 

Opponent: St. John's 

The Longhorns have started off hot this season, bolstering a 6-1 record with their lone loss coming at the hands of San Diego in 11 innings in their opening series of the year. They will welcome a St. John's team that made some noise early in the year when they upset Florida in Gainesville. They are currently 2-2 on the year.

Sport: Basketball

Where: Lubbock, Texas

When: Tuesday 6:00 p.m.

Opponent: Texas Tech 

The Longhorns are looking to claw their way up the Big 12 standings, and they will have a prime opportunity to tighten the gap on Tuesday. Texas Tech sits two games ahead of them, and three games back of first place in the Big 12. The Red Raiders got the best of Texas back in January winning by a score of 78-67. Texas Tech is favored by 4.5 points according to ESPN.

Where: Austin, Texas

When: Wednesday 5:00 p.m.

Opponent: No. 52 St. John's

Currently boasting an 8-2 record on the year, Texas is fresh off of wins over No. 13 Michigan and No. 4 South Carolina. They will welcome St. John's to town on Wednesday.

Where: Norman, Oklahoma

When: Wednesday 6:00 p.m.

Opponent: No. 20 Oklahoma 

This Wednesday evening matinee is between the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the Big 12. Despite Texas being ranked as the No. 3 team in the country, it is actually the Sooners who are in first in the Big 12. Oklahoma beat Texas back in January when the Longhorns were ranked No. 10 and they weren't ranked. The Longhorns sit just one game back.

Where: San Marcos, Texas

When: Wednesday 6:00 p.m.

Opponent: Texas State

The Texas Longhorns suffered their first loss of the season a couple of days ago, and are looking to continue to bounce back against Texas State. The Bobcats are 14-4 on the year with wins over Arizona State, Ohio State, and Seton Hall.
