4-Star LB Tyanthony Smith Flips From Texas A&M, Commits to Longhorns

The Texas Longhorns were able to flip a talented linebacker from one of their biggest rivals in Texas A&M.

While the average person is still getting ready for Christmas and doing last-minute shopping, college football programs all over the country are partaking in flipmas. The act of snatching a recruit from a program that he was previously recruited to.

It's a great feeling when you are the program flipping the recruit, and one of the more demoralizing feelings when it happens to you. In the case of the Texas Longhorns on Wednesday, they were the program flipping a recruit. To make it that much more sweet, they did so from one of their rivals.

The Longhorns ended up flipping four-star linebacker Tyanthony Smith from the Texas A&M Aggies, who revealed his decision to flip and sign with Texas on Wednesday.

Smith, who had been an Aggie pledge since June, has long been connected to the Longhorns for weeks.

Now, that flip has actually taken place, he will instead be heading to Austin rather than College Station.

One would have to imagine that the firing of Jimbo Fisher, and the hiring of Mike Elko played a role. He has had quite the journey of recruitment, as at one point he was viewed as a USC lock before he ended up committing to Texas A&M. For Jasper, Smith not only shined at linebacker, but was used as a wildcat quarterback as well.

Smith currently ranks as the No. 31 linebacker, No. 350 overall player in the country, and No. 55 player in the state of Texas per the On3 Industry Ranking.
