It's always been academics first for Texas football linebacker Jeffery McCulloch.

While most UT fans know the senior as the guy who has started in six games and appeared in 36 career contests with 66 tackles, eight tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and one interception, he's also a three-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll (spring 2017, spring 2018, spring 2019) and was named to the Big 12 All-Academic Team in 2018.

McCulloch got a lesson in priorities from his mother at the tender age of five, when she showed him the consequences of bad grades.

I remember the pain I had to this day when my mother made sat me out of my basketball game," McCulloch said in the video. "(She) made me dress up, sit on the bench would not let me play because my grades weren't right."

McCulloch earned his Sport Science degree at Texas in just three years.

"He wants to succeed not just in football, but in life," head coach Tom Herman said.
