University of Connecticut transfer Jack Zergiotis is continuing his college football career in New England, though the Huskies won’t be involved.

Zergiotis, the Huskies’ most recent opening day quarterback, has joined up with Football Championship Subdivision school Merrimack College of the Northeast Conference (NEC). The program’s official accounts announced the news on Wednesday, just over a month after Zergiotis announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal.

The Montreal native partook in 13 UConn games over their past two seasons of operation, accumulating 2,107 yards (good for ninth all-time in UConn’s Division I-A/Football Bowl Subdivision history) and 12 touchdown passes. His finest Husky performance came in a November 2019 showdown with East Carolina, where he put up 418 yards and three touchdowns.

Stationed in his sophomore season (granted an extra year of eligibility thanks to exceptions brought about by the ongoing health crisis), Zergiotis was the Huskies’ primary thrower for the first two games of the 2021 season before giving way to Stanley Krajewski. With Zergiotis moving on, UConn is set to retain Krajewski, as well as Tyler Phommachanh and Jacob Drena. Former Oregon prospect Cade Millen also comes aboard after a year at Northern Arizona.

Merrimack, coming off a 5-6 season, is searching for a new quarterback after working through the 2021 season with 30-touchdown performer Westin Elliot, who paced the NEC in both aerial scores and yardage (2,942) last season, under center. With a decent amount of FBS experience under his belt, Zergiotis will potentially enter the Warriors’ 2022 season as the favorite to win the primary passer’s role. This season marked their third year of FCS play, having made the leap from Division II in 2019.
