The University of Connecticut’s football team picked up another star who will bring more talent to the 2022 team. Victor Rosa, a running back out of Bristol Central High School, committed to the University of Connecticut on December 15, 2021 via Twitter.

Rosa started playing at a young age when he was inspired by his father to play the game. At five years old, he played flag football, then moved up to pee wee football and continued his career throughout high school.

When the COVID pandemic hit, Rosa used it to his advantage to go to the gym every day and took advantage of working on his skills. The COVID pandemic hit Connecticut hard, as it was one of the states that did not have any football. Because of this, football operations were limited but Rosa pushed through.

“Ever since COVID hit, I worked out more. I used COVID as motivation and developed my body and mind,” said Rosa. “It proved what I could do.”

During Rosa’s junior year of high school, he received an offer from UConn. He had a strong relationship with the coaching staff, which was his deciding factor when commiting to the school.

“With my decision, I had a couple options. With UConn officially, I wanted to meet the new coaching staff. Previous recruits liked the energy straight off the bat,” said Rosa, discussing his admiration of Coach Mora and running back coach, E.J. Barthel. “The plans, I feel like we’re definitely building a monster and I like that. I see myself coming in and being a playmaker and making an impact.”

Rosa is an incredible athlete on the field, as he is the 2021-2022 Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year and MaxPreps Connecticut Player of the Year. However, he is just as incredible of a student in the classroom. Rosa discussed working hard to achieve a 4.3 GPA as well as looking forward to becoming a business major at UConn.

Rosa’s work ethic is unlike a lot of people he knew in school. He emphasized the fact that he goes to school, goes to the gym, then does homework. He prides himself on the fact that his “life is football, working out and school.” This ethic propelled him to become ‘Player of the Year.’

Rosa looks forward to continuing his football journey in the fall because of the team bonding.

“I’ve been playing since flag football and you’ll never build the same type of bond with any other sport,” said Rosa. “Football helps you build connections and a brotherhood.”
