UConn Player Profile: Ta’Quan Roberson, Quarterback

UConn Illustrated player profile on Huskies redshirt sophomore quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson.

Number: #6 | Year: rSo | Height: 5113 | Weight: 203 | Hometown: Orange, NJ | High School: DePaul Catholic

ONE-LINER

A lasso-armed quarterback who is athletic and agile enough to make plays on the run; raw skill-set and still developing—has great upside.

EVALUATION

A mobile signal-caller who can make plays in and out of the pocket, Roberson possesses the athleticism to bide time in the pocket. The New Jersey native owns a strong arm and can keep a defense honest with his deep ball accuracy. During his brief stint at Penn State, accuracy was an issue for Roberson, who continues to put in extra work in that area. He has also been a sponge around coaches, as he learns the new playbook. Roberson is tough, committed to learning and a gamer—he led DePaul Catholic to a state championship in high school. The Huskies recruited the former four-star to Storrs, in order to compete for the starting job.

QUOTABLE

“I’ve seen tremendous leadership. He’s a galvanizing guy, the players like being around him. He’s a guy you know, on Saturdays during March, he was getting out here and throwing the ball. Every evening, I’d look out here and they would be out there throwing the ball. He was the one organizing that. I’ve seen a guy who is really here to learn. He basically lives up here. He’s bugging us all the time how he can get better. Can we watch more film? Can we do this, it’s amazing. On the field, I’ve seen a guy that every single practice, he has gotten better. I think he throws a really nice deep ball. His accuracy is really improving.” – UConn head coach Jim L. Mora on Ta’Quan Roberson during spring ball practice (03/31/22)

On this day, Roberson appeared to be the more accurate passer but both signal-callers continue to state their case to line up under center for the August 27th kickoff at Utah State. Tyler Phommachanh continues to be limited as he rehabs from a left knee injury. (Source: UConn Illustrated)

03/28/22 – Thus far, Krajewski, who appeared in nine games a season ago (1,217 passing yards and seven touchdowns), has seemed to be the most in command. However, the most impressive throws early on in camp have come from Roberson, the much-hyped transfer from Penn State, who is still getting acclimated to his new surroundings. 03/27/22 – It was also very clear which quarterback possessed the most upside, as Roberson showed off his lasso of an arm. He made a handful of throws that others simply cannot. Roberson has a live arm and fluid throwing motion! (Source: UConn Illustrated)

12/29/21 – A social media storm occurred on Tuesday, as former Penn State quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson announced that he would be transferring to UConn on Twitter.
