AP Report: officials should have reviewed final play, given UNC one second

The ACC's supervisor of football officials Dennis Hennigan confirmed on Saturday in a statement to the Associated Press that the final play of Wake Forest's victory over North Carolina should have been reviewed, which would have resulted in one second being put back on the clock.

Contrary to the belief that Michael Carter got out of bounds, it was ruled that his forward progress was stopped inbounds. Because the play resulted in a first-down, the ball would have been spotted at Wake Forest's 43-yard line with the clock beginning on the referee's signal.
Had the Tar Heels lined up quickly and been ready on the whistle, they would have had an opportunity to snap the ball for a final play, although it's not certain they would have gotten a play off in time.

After the play, Carolina running back MIchael Carter said he was confused with the timing, but believed there was a second left.
"I looked up at the clock, and I saw we kind of got up slow, so I thought it was going to be the last play of the game. I felt like I got out of bounds, but I’m not trippin’… I hate it and I feel bad, but also, I’m not going to take it into next week," he said. "I kind of slowed down to try to set the blocks up and if I would have just ran straight out of bounds, we probably would have had like three seconds left, but I thought it was going to be the last play of the game and that was a mental error by me."
