Jay Bateman talks defensive growth, looks ahead to South Carolina
The defensive coordinator isn't feeling any pressure.

From beginning his career as an assistant coach to Hampden-Sydney in 1997 to now, Saturday will mark Jay Bateman's first game as a member of the staff of a Power Five program.
Asked about the excitement of achieving another step in his career, Bateman delivered a simple answer with his deadpan delivery.
“I coached in the Army-Navy game, so I’m good," Bateman said.
Meeting with the media for his first game-week press conference of the season, Bateman offered his assessment of South Carolina, Chazz Surratt's progression at linebacker, and even touched on Sam Howell at quarterback.
