Training camp is over!

After getting the day off on Tuesday for the start of classes, Carolina football is now on its regular practice schedule, going from 8-10 a.m. followed by a media availability with players.

First up in the opponent preview series, South Carolina and Jake Bentley.

My report from Monday night, where teammates praised Sam Howell's praise and discussed the need for more leadership on offense + notes on Marcus McKethan and the players' feelings on the open practice.

Tim Winters, who covers high school football in Union County, covered Howell's entire career at Sun Valley. He compared the freshman gunslinger to Brett Favre in this interview, starting around the 5:30 mark.

Really interesting stuff from USA TODAY, which dug into skyrocketing recruiting budgets. Surprisingly, Carolina outspent Ohio State last season.

Coby White and Nassir Little earned some kudos from fellow NBA rookies, while the player they viewed with the best future in the league came as a surprise.

Carolina women's soccer kicks off on Thursday vs. Indiana and they'll do it with a No. 2 ranking, just behind Florida State. The men, ranked No. 6 in the preseason, begin their season on Aug. 30 vs. Creighton.

Wendy Anderson, wife of former Carolina offensive coordinator and current Arkansas State coach Blake Anderson, passed away after battling cancer. The Athletic has a wonderful story on the family and Wendy's fight.

CBS Sports' annual Candid Coaches series is underway, and coaches were polled on their willingness to visit the White House.

If you'd like to feel old, Tar Heel Blog has a nice retrospective on the world that existed during Mack Brown's final season at Carolina in 1997. Mark Morrison's "Return of the Mack" was No. 8 in the Billboard Hot 100 Singles list. That's what we call foreshadowing, folks.
