USC Football: MarShawn Lloyd Stays Close to Home in New NFL Mock Draft

Much of the talk around the USC Trojans in the upcoming NFL Draft has centered around quarterback Caleb Williams and for good reason. He is expected to be the first overall pick in the draft, but USC also has some other talented players entering the league.

One of those players is running back MarShawn Lloyd, who put together a very solid season with the Trojans last year. After transferring from South Carolina, Lloyd put up 820 yards and nine touchdowns for the Trojans over 11 games played.

He was one of the keys to the offensive attack for USC, giving them a balanced running game. Lloyd is likely to be taken in the middle part of the draft but will give whichever team that takes him a tough, physical runner.

In USA Today's latest mock draft, Gavino Borquez of Chargers Wire has the Bolts selected Lloyd with their pick in the third round. He explains the fit of Lloyd within the Chargers system below.

"The Chargers want to pound the rock. After adding Gus Edwards in free agency, they add another here in Lloyd. Lloyd has ties to this coaching staff, as former USC running backs coach Kiel McDonald was hired to the same position with Los Angeles."

Lloyd would fit in very well within the Chargers system, especially given what new head coach Jim Harbaugh wants to do. The Bolts will likely be very run-heavy on offense, so Lloyd could give them a power-type back to work with.

USC fans would love to see Lloyd stay in Los Angeles, keeping him close to home. This would be an ideal fit for everyone involved and with their need for the position, it's quite possible that Lloyd could end up being taken by the Chargers at some point.
