USC Football: WR Rod Sherman, Captain On Rose Bowl Team, Passes Away

The USC Hall of Famer has left us.

Former USC Trojans wide receiver and Hall of Famer Rod Sherman died earlier this week due to natural causes.

The Hall of Famer was 79 years old.

Sherman was Los Angeles through and through. He was born and raised in Pasadena, where he attended John Muir High School. He spent four seasons in the Cardinal Red and Gold, where he was an All-Pac-8 selection in 1966.

As a Trojan, he captained the 1966 Trojan team that played in the Rose Bowl. In his career, he caught 90 passes for Southern California.

In 2018, he was selected to the USC Athletic Hall of Fame and is a member of the California Community College Athletic Association Hall of Fame.

Sherman then entered the draft, where he was selected by the then AFL's Oakland Raiders with the seventh pick. He spent seven years in the NFL with the Raiders (1967, 1969-1971), the Cincinnati Bengals, the Denver Broncos, and the Los Angeles Rams.

This USC great may be gone, but he will never be forgotten—condolences to the Sherman family.
