Cam Rising's health continues to be the biggest question about Utah in 2024

For the entire offseason leading up to the 2023 season, there were questions and vague answers surrounding Cam Rising's health.

The quarterback was believed to have torn his ACL in the Rose Bowl the season prior, and there was some optimism that he would be able to return in time for Utah's Week 1 game against Florida. He ended up not being ready to go, and his knee injury was much more severe than initially reported as he tore his ACL, meniscus, MPFL and MCL, leading to him not playing at all for Utah.

While this led to a disappointing season for Utah, who finished 8-5 and were plagued by injuries all year, they will return Rising for a seventh season in 2024. However, whether or not he will be the same high-caliber quarterback he was before the injury remains a question.

Utah Utes quarterback Cameron Rising (7) walks with assistance off the field in the second half against the Penn State Nittany Lions of the 109th Rose Bowl game at the Rose Bowl.

On3's Jesse Simonton tabbed his health as the biggest question surrounding Utah in 2024.

"Battling injuries all across the roster throughout last season, the Utes slipped to 8-5 in 2023 — with star quarterback Cam Rising missing the entire season. Rising, who tore his ACL in the Rose Bowl, dressed for multiple games yet never played. He’s back, but how healthy is he? Rising led Utah to back-to-back Pac-12 Championships and now he’s looking to lead the program to an immediate Big 12 title."

If he is healthy, there is no doubt that Utah should be pushing for a Big 12 title, which would also mean a College Football Playoff berth. Rising is a consensus top quarterback in the sport, and is as proven as any. It also helps that the Utes loaded up on offense around Rising to make his life easier. They brought back Brant Kuithe for a seventh year, and added UCLA tight end transfer Carsen Ryan, while also landing USC receiver Dorian Singer, and Washington receiver Taeshaun Lyons. They also have a loaded running back room, which takes some pressure off of Rising.

The Utes are the favorites to win the conference in year one, but a majority of their success hinges on Rising.
