Cole Bishop Shines During Reese's Senior Bowl Practices

Cole Bishop was one of Utah's best defensive backs during his time playing with the team, now the former Ute is one of the Senior Bowl's biggest standouts and many scouts are taking notice

A former Utah star is seeing his draft stock rise after an impressive start to Reese’s Senior Bowl week.

Cole Bishop, a three-time Pac-12 All-Conference safety who played with the Utes for three seasons (‘21-’23), isn’t holding anything back through the first three days of Senior Bowl practice.

In an interview with ClemsonSports reporter Luke Winstel, Bishop highlighted both his versatility and football IQ as strengths NFL teams should take note of.

From the moment he stepped onto the field for Utah, Bishop excelled as an instinctual three-level threat on defense. In 35 games with the Utes, the former Georgia high school standout filled the statsheet with a total of 197 total tackles, 21.5 tackles for a loss, 7.5 sacks, three interceptions, and four forced fumbles.

Able to disrupt the game near the line of scrimmage and in the secondary, Bishop can develop into an impact starter on just about any NFL team.

Many scouts have been taking notice of Bishop’s wide range of talents during early Senior Bowl practices. According to initial reports, the New England Patriots are one of the teams that have met with Bishop this week.

The former Utah safety has been praised for his ability to cover tight ends during early Senior Bowl practices. Bishop had several strong reps against Michigan tight end AJ Barner where he forced multiple incompletions.

“Utah safety Cole Bishop has been awesome covering tight ends,” said SB Nation staff writer, Blaine Grisak in response to Bishop’s coverage.

Ranked by Pro Football Network as the No. 5 ranked safety in the 2024 draft, and widely considered a top-150 prospect overall, Bishop will only continue to rise up draft boards as his pre-draft process goes on.

As the Senior Bowl continues Bishop will have more chances to impress teams with his versatile skill set. Moreover, Bishop will be in attendance for the 2024 NFL Combine on Thursday, March 2nd, and have the possibility to ascend up draft boards even further.
