Frustration Begining To Show For Seniors As Vanderbilt's Struggles Continue

Entering the season Vanderbilt had high hopes with their returning seniors, now five games into it, some seniors frustrations are showing.

Experience is always a good thing, having experience and seniors on a football team is no exception. That's why many people had high hopes for the Vanderbilt Commodores entering the 2019 season.

A 1-4 start has thrown cold water on those hopes and following Saturday nights embarrassing performance against Ole Miss in Oxford has left some of those senior visibly frustrated.

Keep in mind that media members are not allowed in college locker rooms, or given access to players of their choosing even outside the locker room.

Certain student athletes are chosen to speak for themselves, and perhaps even their teammates in front of the mics and cameras after.

Seniors Kalijah Lipscomb and Ke'Shawn Vaughn were two of three student athlets chosen following the Commodores 31-6 loss Saturday, and the frustrations of a less than expected start to the season were evident on their faces, and in their comments.

I don't know these two gentlemen on a personal level, infact I've never spoken a word to them without holding some type recording device in my hand, but I know people and body language and vocal inflections can oftentimes speak louder than the words coming from someone's mouth.

That was the case with the two above mentioned Commodores on Saturday night.

Vaughn, who managed just 62 yards rushing for the game had little in terms of words to say following the game.

"We've just got to play better football," said Vaughn repeatedly to multiple questions asked by reporters.

I even joked with others in the media room that Vaughn reminded me of Marshawn Lynch when he continually repeated the same sentence.

Lipscomb was a little more vocal in his thoughts and comments, though the same frustration visible on Vaughn was also present for his teammate.

Asked about the mood of the team and if there was any sense of panic in the locker room, Lispcomb was honest with his assessment.

"I think there's a little panic, and rightfully so," admitted Lispcomb. "We all realize we have to be better. No one wants to be 1-4, but that's were we are so like I said, we've got to come back and play better, man. That's it."

Asked about the potential for the Commodores offense if it is good for four quarters, Lispcomb's response was very telling.

"I don't know, we haven't seen it yet," said Lispcomb matter of factly. "We play well in practice, so when we put it together for four quarters, that will be the first time yall see it, it will be the first time we see it and you know, I think it will be a pretty good thing."

Lipscomb and his fellow senoirs along with the rest of their teammates get a chance for redemption this Saturday as they face UNLV at 3pm inside Vanderbitl Stadium.
