It's Early But Bye Week Perfect For Commodores
The Vanderbilt Commodores football team are in the midst of a much needed bye week, even though we are just two weeks into a new season.
It might seen early for a bye week but following two double digit losses to Georgia and Purdue, and with LSU set to visit Nashville in two weeks, this is a good time for a bye.
Even in their loss to Georgia there were things to be encouraged about, but following Saturday's embarrassing performance at Purdue, the Commodores have a lot of things to work on before seeing the Bayou Tigers, who last Saturday went into Austin, Texas and whipped up on the Longhorns.
Following their loss Saturday, Dayo Odeyingbo was asked about the game and summed it up with few words. A "lack of discipline."
That lack of discipline lead to 13 penalties and a litany of other mistakes that cost them a chance at winning their first game. A repeat of those same issue against LSU would lead to a far worse outcome.
The Commodores have their bye week to find discipline, build camaraderie and fix the things that went wrong at Purdue before they have to turn their attention to the beast that is LSU.
If Derek Mason and his staff can't find the answers to the basic issue this team has suffered from so far, this season will get worse before it gets better.
