Monday Around The SEC: Week Five Recap

Week Five of the Southeastern Conference football schedule saw four matchups between conference foes, and it was a less than exciting day to be sure.
Here are the four conference contests.
ALABAMA 59 OLE MISS 31: This one played out exactly like most assumed. Bama rolled ther Rebs in Tuscaloosa. Ole Miss scored first but then Tua and his mates scored often and kept going, setting multiple school records in the easy win.
AUBURN 56 MISSISSIPPI STATE 23: Gus Malzahn was believed to have been on the hot-seat entering the season. That seat's now a block of ice as freshman Bo Nix has the Tiger offense purring like a new Ferrari while their defense might just be the best in the west, and conference too! This bunch of Tigers are good enough to win the conference, but still have Florida, LSU, Georgia and Alabama on their schedule, plus a likely rematch with the UF/UGA winner in Atlanta should they win the west.
SOUTH CAROLINA 24 KENTUCKY 7: The Gamecocks aren't a bad team despite their beatdown by Bama, and they showed it in a dominating performance against a Kentucky team that had Florida beat in Lexington, only to let them escape. The Wildcats offense was non-existant in Columbia as the Carolina defense served notice to the rest of their schedule that they aren't a pushover.
TEXAS A&M 31 ARKANSAS 27: A&M started the season with high expectations, but their loss to Clemson took some of the starch out of that. Saturday's win, while any win is a good win, might have proven that the Aggies are still a ways away from the top tier of the SEC where Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, LSU and Florida appear to be right now. The Aggies struggled, even trailing the Hogs late before rebounding to get the win. A similar performance against Bama, AU and LSU will get them a solid beat down.
NON-CONFERENCE GAMES
FLORIDA 38 TOWSON 0: The Gators won handily, but some feel their perrformance wasn't great. Throw me into that group, but then that happens a lot when SEC teams face similar teams who are outmaned by an SEC squad. Still UF will have to be ready this week for Auburn, which I think will be much easier for Dan Mullen and Company to be up for.
VANDERBILT 24 NORTHERN ILLINOIS 18: Once again, any win's a good win and Vandy needed this one. The Dores jumped out early and then held on against a late charged from the Huskies. A similar start, but better finish will be needed this week against Ole Miss.
BYE WEEKS: Tennessee, LSU and Missouri.
