Three Key Matchups: Vanderbilt-Ole Miss

In every football game, or any sport for that matter, there are matchups all across the board that will help determine the outcome of a game, but we bring it down to what are our two three that will determine the outcome tonight against Ole Miss in Oxford.

KEY MATCHUPS

1) Commodores O-Line Vs Land Sharks:  It's a broken record this week in my writing about the Vandy offensive line, but football games are won and lost in the trenches and the Commodores offensive line must be solid this week and protect quarterback Riley Neal and open things for Ke'Shawn Vaughn to run the football.

A very wise, and successful former high school football coach with over 300 wins to his credit told me repeatedly, "keep it simple, football ain't rocket science son," and that's what I'm doing here. The basics of blocking and tackling.

2) Commodores secondary vs Ole Miss receivers: Ole Miss is averaging 224.6 yards per game passing, but theirfreshman quarterback struggled last week to break the hundred yard mark. Yes, it was Bama but they laid a blueprint for Vanderbilt to follow against the freshman.

How well the Commodores back end can defend the Rebels will determine this one.

3) Jared Pinkney vs Coverage: A legitimate first round NFL talent, Pinkney must reemerge from his slumber and be the man to control the middle of the field for Neal and his offense. There are plays to be made against this defense there and he has to come back to prominence and make them.

Vanderbilt can, and almost must win this one, and getting these three things to go in their favor will be a huge step toward a win.
