The Vanderbilt Commodores withstood a late charge from the visiting Huskies of Northern Illinois to earn their first victory of the season, 24-18 at Vanderbilt Stadium.

It looked like this one might be over early as the COmmodores scored quickly on their first to possessions of the game to build a 14-0 lead. The Huskies defense seemd unable to even slow down Vanderbilt.

That changed however as Vanderbilt did their part to help NIU while the Huskies defense made adjustments and began to stop the offensive output in the second quarter.

Penalties on back-to-back possession put the Commodores offensebehind the chains and forced puts that allowed the Huskies to begin their climb back into the contest.

Ke'Shawn Vaugh lead the Commodores offens, rushing for 138 yards and a touchdown just hours after the birth of his son on Friday night.

Frehsman running back Keyon Brooks notched his first career touchdown in a 61 yard run for the Commodores second touchdown of the game. He finished the day with 2 carries for 61 yards and the score.

Quarterback Riley Neal completed 21 of 28 pass attempts form 189n yards and a touchdown, with the touchdown coming in the 3rd quarteron a flea-flicker pass to receiver Kalijah Lipscomb.
