That's another point for the Hoos in the 2022-2023 Commonwealth Clash. No. 9 Virginia women's tennis defeated Virginia Tech 5-2 on Thursday afternoon at Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville to give UVA an 8.0-7.0 lead in this year's Commonwealth Clash. 

It was a near perfect start to the match for the Cavaliers, who swept all three doubles matches. The teams of Julia Adams/Melodie Collard and Elaine Chervinsky/Natasha Subhash didn't drop a single game, winning 6-0 on courts 1 and 2, while Sara Ziodato and Annabelle Xu picked up a 6-2 win on court 3. 

Julia Adams, who was honored in a Senior Day ceremony before the match, continued her celebration in singles action as she defeated Tamara Bara Itzhaki 6-2, 6-2 on court 2. Sara Ziodato picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win over Erika Cheng on court 5 to make it 3-0 in favor of Virginia. 

Virginia Tech got on the board on court 6 as Katie Andreini beat Melodie Collard 6-2, 6-4. Hibah Shaikh clinched the victory for the Cavaliers shortly after that, though, winning 6-3, 6-1 vs. Daryia Radulova on court 3. 

With the match already decided, each team scored a point as Ozlem Uslu beat Natasha Subhash 6-1, 7-6 on the top court and Elaine Chervinsky rallied to beat Semra Aksu 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 on court 4, making the final score 5-2 in favor of Virginia.

Now 15-4 overall and 8-2 in ACC play, Virginia will conclude the regular season with a pair of ranked road matches next weekend at No. 7 NC State on Friday (4/14) and at No. 24 Wake Forest on Sunday (4/16).
