Wahoos Weekly: Previewing the Week Ahead in Virginia Athletics [5/22-5/28]

See the full schedule of Virginia Cavaliers sporting events for the week of May 22nd-28th and a preview of the week ahead in UVA athletics. This week, seven Virginia sports teams will be in action for a total of eight UVA sporting events.

Fresh off of winning its second-consecutive national championship and sixth in program history, the Virginia men's tennis team will have three players - Jeffrey von der Schulenburg, Inaki Montes, and Chris Rodesch - competing in the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championship. The UVA women's tennis team will also have two players - Julia Adams and Natasha Subhash - competing in the NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championship. Singles play for both brackets begins with the first round on Monday and runs through Saturday, May 27th at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.

A combined 30 athletes from the Virginia men's and women's track & field teams will compete in the NCAA East Preliminary Championships from May 24-27 on the campus of the University of North Florida. The top 12 finishers in each event will advance to compete in the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held June 7-10 in Austin, Texas.

The Virginia baseball team, which rose nine spots to No. 12 in the latest D1Baseball Top 25 after finishing the regular season on a nine-game winning streak and claiming its first ACC Coastal title since 2011, has earned the No. 2 seed in the ACC Baseball Championship. UVA is in Pool B and will face No. 11 seed Georgia Tech on Wednesday and No. 7 seed North Carolina on Thursday. The winner of each pool advances to the semifinals on Saturday. The 2023 ACC Baseball Championship runs from Tuesday through Sunday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina and the entire tournament will be broadcast on the ACC Network with the exception of the ACC Championship Game, which will air on ESPN2. No. 16 Virginia men's golf begins competition at the NCAA Championship on Friday at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. After three days of stroke play, the 30-team field will be cut in half and then cut again after Monday to send eight teams to match play.

The No. 9 UVA rowing team will compete in the 2023 NCAA Rowing Championships this weekend at Cooper River Park in Pennsauken, New Jersey. Virginia is seeded No. 8 in the Varsity Eight, No. 11 in the Second Varsity Eight, and No. 6 in the Varsity Four. The Cavaliers are seeking their third NCAA national championship in program history after winning the title in 2010 and 2012.

After defeating No. 7 Georgetown 17-14 to advance to the Final Four for the third time in the last five years, the No. 2 Virginia men's lacrosse team will face No. 3 Notre Dame for the third time this season in the semifinals of the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship on Saturday at approximately 2:30pm in Philadelphia. The winner will advance to Monday's National Championship Game and will face the winner of No. 1 Duke and No. 5 Penn State.
