Tony Bennett and the Cavaliers have their point guard of the future.

UVA secured its top target in the recruiting class of 2024 as four-star point guard Christian Bliss committed to Virginia on Friday afternoon, as first reported by On3's Joe Tipton. Bliss chose the Cavaliers over offers from Villanova, Xavier, and Miami.

“I chose UVA because I believe in the vision the coaching staff has for the program and myself,” Bliss said in an interview with On3. “I want to be around a group of people that will help prepare me for the next level and life. And most importantly to bring home a national championship.”

A 6'4" guard from the George School in Newtown, Pennsylvania, Bliss averaged 20.0 points and 5.2 assists per game and shot 56% from the floor and 43% from three in his junior season. 247Sports has Bliss rated as the No. 129 overall recruit in the class of 2024, the No. 6-ranked player in the state of Pennsylvania, and the No. 18 combo guard in the country, while On3 has him as the No. 117 national recruit and the No. 15 point guard in the class of 2024.

Bliss is the complete package on the offensive end as a playmaking point guard. He can create shots for himself and his teammates off the dribble, is a willing and skilled passer with excellent court vision, and is able to knock down perimeter shots with a smooth form both off the dribble and on catch-and-shoot attempts.

Watch some of his highlights in the videos below:

Bliss took an official visit to Villanova back in April and then took back-to-back official visits to Xavier and Virginia last week. Ultimately, the Cavaliers beat out the two Big East schools for the commitment of Bliss, a native of Queens, New York, in part thanks to a strong recruiting pitch from a couple of current and former Wahoos who also hail from the Empire State.

“My family and I spent some time with Ryan Dunn,” Bliss said in an interview with Cavs Corner. “He is from Long Island and I am from Queens and they are pretty close to each other so it was cool talking to him. Ty Jerome was also in town when I was visiting so I was able to speak with him and work out with him. I talked to some other people too about what it is like to play there and what their experiences were like, so that was really helpful."

With Bliss coming to Virginia starting in the 2024-2025 season, the Cavaliers now have a solid succession plan in place at the point guard position. Reece Beekman will be the leading point guard next season and then Georgetown transfer Dante Harris will likely take over just as Christian Bliss arrives to begin the process of learning UVA's system before taking over as the primary point guard later in his career.

Christian Bliss is Virginia's first verbal commitment in the recruiting class of 2024 and the Cavaliers are hopeful that he'll be the centerpiece of what will eventually be another talent-filled recruiting class for the UVA men's basketball program.
