Virginia junior linebacker Ryan Attaway has entered the transfer portal, as first reported by Wahoos247's Jacquie Franciulli on Thursday morning.

A 6'0", 219-pound linebacker from Milton, Georgia, Attaway appeared in only seven games over his two seasons at UVA, including five games in the 2022 season. Attaway was one of 14 true freshmen to play in a game in 2021 and was an Academic All-ACC selection in 2022.

Although Virginia lost its defensive leader at the linebacker position from last season in Nick Jackson, the Cavaliers have a solid crop of talent at linebacker with Josh Ahern and James Jackson leading the way and a few younger players like Stevie Bracey and Trey McDonald ready to step up. UVA is considering having junior safety Lex Long play at linebacker as well.

Attaway is the second Cavalier to enter the transfer portal in this 15-day spring window, joining defensive back Cam'Ron Kelly, who entered the transfer portal on Tuesday, just a few months after he transferred from North Carolina to Virginia. The second window of the NCAA transfer portal opened on April 15th and players can enter the portal until April 30th. Virginia is expected to actively pursue multiple targets in the transfer portal this spring with a particular emphasis on the offensive line and defensive back positions.
