Myles Gaskin wasn't out of work long in the NFL. In fact, after getting cut by the Miami Dolphins, the veteran running back couldn't get out of Florida fast enough.

The University of Washington's all-time leading rusher was released on Tuesday, re-signed by the Minnesota Vikings a day later and reported to his new team for practice on Thursday.

Gaskin first had to deal with the uncomfortable aftereffects of Hurricane Idalia that brought him a two-hour travel delay and a notably bumpy ride through the not so calm Sunshine State, but he made it out of there while hanging on for dear life.

"I'm terrified of flying, so that wind and turbulence had me stressed out, sweating like crazy next to a stranger," Gaskin said after Thursday's practice. "Yeah, I'm glad I made it."

After four seasons with the Dolphins, two as a starter and the team's leading rusher, Gaskin was let go in favor of other backs who included UW and Miami teammate Salvon Ahmed.

Last season, Gaskin dealt with a new Dolphins coaching staff that didn't use him much and a bothersome shoulder injury. Inactive for 11 games and appearing in just four outings, he ended up on injured reserve.

The 5-foot-9, 198-pound running back from Lynnwood, Washington, is happy to be with the Vikings and intends to use his recent experiences to bounce back.

"[It was} soak up as much game as I possibly could with not playing," Gaskin said, "and try to become a better player and be able to capitalize on all that this year."
