Running back Gavin Sawchuk, from Valor Christian High School in Littleton, Colorado, and a 5-star recruit for the Class of 2022, wants to visit the University of Washington.

It's been highly recommended to him by someone he trusts, a current Husky offensive lineman.

That's enough for him.

"I've spoken with my former Valor teammate Roger Rosengarten about his experience at Washington and he loves it there," Sawchuk said.

The attraction to Sawchuk is he's not only speedy, but he's surprisingly physical, as shown in the below MaxPreps "Beast Mode" clip.

"Sawchuk has just one gear — overdrive," said Trevor Mueller, Husky Maven's high school recruiting analyst. "When he finds an opening, he's gone. It seems like he can hit top gear off his plant foot on cuts."

However, Sawchuk shurgs off the accolades like so many tacklers coming his way.

"Football is a team game," he said.  "I heard that I was the league MVP and that I'm in the running for Colorado Gatorade Player of the Year, but I don't focus on individual awards."

Don't misunderstand him, he loves awards — ones of the championship variety.

As a freshman at Valor Christian, Sawchuk was teammates with Rosengarten, the current UW offensive lineman. Together they won the 2018 state championship, beating Cherry Creek.

This past season, the running back lost to Cherry Creek, a setback to disheartening he doesn't even remember the final score. .

In reality, Sawchuk was appreciative that Valor Christian played football when it was questionable at times, but that still didn't soften the blow.

"There were times when we weren't even sure if we'd have a season," he recalled.  "Some places had regular seasons and some didn't have seasons. But I felt like we had unfinished business on the field."

Sawchuk averaged more than 200 all-purpose yards per game in a seven-game season. He played 20 quarters and rushed 131 carries for 1,239 yards (9.5 per carry) and 17 touchdowns. He also had 9 receptions for 71 yards, two kickoff returns for 106 yards and a score (85 yards) for 1,416 all-purpose yards.

With his season in the rearview mirror, he's begun reconnecting with the Huskies and some of the nearly 30 schools that have offered him a scholarship, a third of which are from the Pac-12.

"Coach B and I talk regularly now," he said of UW running-backs coach Keith Bhonapha. "But we don't talk a lot about football."

Sawchuk is fully aware of the Husky running backs who have gone on to the NFL, among them Myles Gaskin, Dwayne Washington, and Salvon Ahmed.

When schools finally are allowed to have official visits, Sawchuk wants to check out Seattle and the UW in person. He knows who would make a good tour guide.

"I've heard so many good things about the U-Dub from Roger," Sawchuk said, again referring to Rosengarten. "I'd love to get there to see it first-hand."
