Could Washington Take Two QBs in 2024?

With one commit already, the Huskies have scheduled an official visit with a second QB.

The class of 2024 has been an interesting year for Washington regarding quarterback recruitment. First, the Huskies secured local three-star E.J. Caminong from Garfield High School in October of 2022. four-star quarterback Austin Mack next announced his commitment to Washington early in 2023.

For about two weeks, it looked like Washington would have two quarterbacks in its class of 2024 until Mack stated his intentions to reclassify and join the class of 2023. Now, it appears the Huskies might try to take two quarterbacks again.

After extending an offer to Dermaricus Davis from California's Etiwanda High School in early May, he's scheduled to join Washington's biggest weekend of official visitors at the end of June. But the question begs, can the Huskies actually take two quarterbacks?

There might be a few more open scholarships than some people are projecting by the time the class of 2024 actually gets to campus, depending on who leaves for the NFL Draft following the end of the 2023 season.

The coaching staff seems to be very high on Davis, as well as Caminong, since it took his commitment so early in the process. And that could mean that it's willing to take two high school quarterbacks to make sure there's a significant amount of depth in the room, especially with the impending departure of Michael Penix and one more year of eligibility in 2024 remaining for Dylan Morris.

It makes more sense to take one high schooler and add an extra body through the transfer portal, but even after just one season, Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb have earned the benefit of the doubt in their development and talent evaluation at the position.

While there's a lot of time to sort out names, it appears the coaching staff wants to add multiple reinforcements at the position in preparation for life after Michael Penix.
