For the UW, Finding a Promising Edge Rusher Knows No Borders

In this story:
Jared Martin plays his high school football some 17 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border, for Central Union in El Centro, California, just up the road from the Mexicali entry point, and 113 miles due east of San Diego.
Whereas he might find himself in relative obscurity as far as college football recruits go, this 6-foot-4, 220-pound edge rusher is just beginning to get noticed.
This week, University of Washington recruiters offered him a scholarship, his fourth to go with Arizona State, Colorado State and Nevada.
Did we forget to mention he's just a sophomore and a Class of 2025 prospect?
Martin understands his 7-4 playoff-bound team and himself might be lacking in attention.
"We need to play more physical," he said in a YouTube video after being named El Centro Police Department player of the game after a midseason outing. "We have a good team, a big team, a fast team. I feel we're a top team. We need more respect."
After a great conversation with @PlayerProMorgan and @CoachPena__CUHS I’m blessed to receive my 4th D1 offer from The University of Washington, @UW_Football pic.twitter.com/6L8iV6TlBN

Martin has done his best to get noticed by a lot of people so far. He finished his 10th-grade football season with 15 sacks. He also averages 22.3 points per game in basketball and bats .440 for the El Centro High baseball team.
In the accompanying photo to this story, he's smack in the middle of all of his teammates, wearing No. 22 and arms outstretched, definitely hard not to notice.
No matter how far out of the recruiting mainstream he might be, people won't have any trouble finding Jared Martin with those kind of corresponding numbers.
