Former Fresno State TE Follows DeBoer To Washington

The Huskies add another commit to the 2024 class on Christmas Eve.

The Washington Huskies received an early Christmas present on Sunday after former Fresno State tight end Tre Watson announced his commitment.

It took less than a week for Watson to choose the Huskies after announcing an offer from his former coach, Kalen DeBoer. Now he will join a position group that is typically one of the Huskies' strongest.

He committed to Washington over offers from Texas A&M, UCLA and others, and will have one year of eligibility remaining.

With seniors Devin Culp and Jack Westover out of eligibility, Watson will be expected to assume a big role in the offense, which likes to deploy multiple tight-end sets. He will join senior-to-be Quentin Moore and rising junior Josh Cuevas as the experienced members of the room.

Watson finished with 38 catches for 378 yards and 4 touchdowns during his junior campaign and will give offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb an imposing presence in the red zone along with his prowess as a run blocker.

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Watson also brings extra experience to tight ends coach Nick Sheridan's position group, taking pressure off rising sophomore Ryan Otton and recently signed freshman Decker DeGraaf. Otton, a former 4-star recruit, has struggled with injuries over his two years with Washington and has played in just two games.

During the early signing period, DeBoer said the coaching staff was expecting as many as five more players to join the class between signees and new commitments, but so far Watson is the only person added.

The Huskies have three commits who could sign their national letter of intent when the February signing period rolls around. Watson joins 4-star defensive lineman Dominic Kirks and former Arizona State defensive lineman B.J. Green in that group.

After 4-star wide receiver Aaron Butler signed with Texas over Washington late on Friday night, the coaching staff likely will pursue another receiver in the transfer portal to pair with Watson to finish off the class.
