Former Kansas State Safety Sets UW Visit

Kobe Savage will tour Oregon, as well, as he looks for a new school.

The Washington Huskies look to add an experienced player to the secondary and will host former Kansas State safety Kobe Savage for an official visit this weekend, according to a report from On3's Pete Nakos.

The former Wildcat is one of the hottest names in the transfer portal in the secondary and would be an impact player at strong safety, where the Huskies will lose senior Dominique Hampton.

Savage is interested in joining one of the two powers in the Pacific Northwest and also will visit Oregon before making his decision.

He was a highly productive player over his two years at Kansas State, finishing with 115 tackles and 6 interceptions. Conference coaches made him an All-Big 12 second-team selection in 2022.

After transferring from Tyler Junior College in Texas, Savage was one of the Wildcats' most reliable tacklers, something Washington's secondary members struggled with at times this season.

Washington's coaching staff wants to add a veteran playmaker at safety and have made Savage and Kamari Ramsey formerly of UCLA targeted priorities. Both have visits lined up. Ramsey will have three years of eligibility remaining while Savage will enroll as a graduate transfer wherever he ends up.

Senior Asa Turner remains a question mark after an injury-filled season. If he chooses to stay with the Huskies another year, Turner and junior Kamren Fabiculanen would be the favorites to start while a transfer likely would be asked to take a lot of snaps in the rotation.

Co-defensive coordinator Chuck Morrell has brought in several talented prospects at safety over the last two recruiting classes, which include true freshmen Vincent Holmes and Diesel Gordon, and unsigned 4-star commits Peyton Waters and Joshua Lair, who will join the team in 2024.

The Huskies have done a solid job in recruiting talented players in the secondary during coach Kalen DeBoer's tenure and Savage's addition would help build on that success.
