How Many Recruits Can Washington Pull This Weekend?

The Huskies need to close on some recruits ASAP.

It's no secret that Washington has gotten off to a slow start on the recruiting trail. However the largest group of recruits has arrived for their official visits and now the question is, how many can the coaching staff earn a commitment from this weekend?

The Huskies have been hosting visitors all week, including three-star edge rusher Deshawn Warner, three-star safety Dontae Carter, and four-star receiver Jason Robinson. But on Friday, 10 visitors are scheduled to arrive and join the five prospects that began their official visit on Thursday.

In 2022 when the coaching staff hosted a similarly massive weekend, it earned eight commitments over the course of the weekend. On top of that, of the 17 official visitors, 15 of them were committed to Washington at one time.

If the staff wants to get back to that point with the class of 2024, it has a lot of work to do. Of the 15 visitors currently on campus, only four-star Paki Finau has officially announced his commitment.

Some targets have announced commitment dates following their visits, including four-star safety Peyton Waters, three-star linebacker Khmori House, and four-star defensive lineman Dominic Kirks. But out of those who haven't, the coaching staff needs to pull out all the stops to ensure they can secure a few commitments by the end of the weekend.

If it doesn't, things could get dire on the recruiting trail rather quickly.

The best way the staff can assert its presence as recruiters is by locking down four-star defensive tackle Jericho Johnson. The product of Armijo High School is the highest-rated recruit taking an official visit to Montlake this summer and a commitment from him would get the ball rolling in a major way, much like former four-star edge rusher Anthony James did for the class of 2023.

There's a long way to go until signing day, but the coaching staff needs to find a way to lock down some recruits. The good news is sources have said leading up to the weekend that somewhere between five and eight prospects were close to committing coming into their visit.

Now, it's time for the Huskies to pull out all the stops and make sure they can lock down a class that can help them remain competitive in the Pac-12.
