Huskies Offer Another Desert Edge Player, Four in All

Jonathan Kamara is a safety or linebacker, depending on how he fills out.

In this story:

Desert Edge sounds sort of ominous, like it's the last place where you can find shade or water before stumbling out among the saguaro, tumbleweeds and rattlesnakes, and maybe getting lost.

Yet in this case, it's a sprawling suburban Phoenix high school that seems to have a lot of talented football players walking around campus.

N-Dub Pizza Pub is just up the street. In the other direction is Serafina Nails and Spa. The school is just off Interstate 10, going west. It's a safe, welcoming place, especially if you're a recruiter.

Desert Edge High has Jonathan Kamara, a 6-foot-4, 208-pound safety or outside linebacker, a Class of 2024 prospect who last week received a University of Washington scholarship offer.

Kamara actually is one of four players from a team nicknamed the Scorpions who recently held a Montlake full-ride proposal.

DeShawn Warner, a 2024 edge rusher, has narrowed his choices to the UW, Texas, Kansas and Oregon State.  Aundre Gibson, a 2024 cornerback, has committed to Kansas over 13 others, including the Huskies. And Jamar Beal, a 2025 corner, has the UW among eight offers so far.

In all, Desert Edge has 11 football players currently holding scholarship offers from someone.

Besides the Huskies, Kamara has 12 other offers, with Texas, California, Kansas State and Kansas among them.

With his rangy, skinny frame, he reminds people of Lance "Showtime" Holtzclaw, a UW edge rusher coming off his freshman season who prepped at Desert Ridge High School in the valley, not to be confused with Desert Edge.

Kamara, playing all over the field, had 40 tackles, 4 pass break-ups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery last fall for his 8-4 team.
