In this story:

Christian Clark received a scholarship offer from UCLA 45 minutes after picking one up from the University of Washington, this after Florida State made a bid for him on Monday at noon.

Recruiting is a strange beast the way it suddenly rears its head and lets out a roar for some people.

For Clark, a compact 6-foot, 195-pound running back who hails from Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix and the Class of 2024, his ears have been ringing for about two weeks now — with most of his 22 college football offers coming over that time.

Last Friday, Clark fielded offers from California, Nebraska, Oregon and Tennessee, before taking an unofficial visit to look over the Ducks facilities.

Before that, he heard from Georgia, USC, ASU, Iowa, Michigan State and others.

What everyone sees in Clark is a tough-minded back who can run over people, as well as around them, and he catches passes at a high rate, too.

For an 8-4 Mountain Pointe team, he rushed 163 times for 737 yards and 11 touchdowns, and added 37 receptions for 368 yards and another 5 scores.

The Huskies tend to recruit well in Arizona, with edge rusher Bralen Trice (Centennial High, Phoenix) and Husky hybrid Dominique Hampton (Centennial, Glendale) returning as UW starters, and center Matteo Mele (Salpointe Catholic,Tucson) potentially a third first-teamer.
