The University of Washington football staff adheres to a "Loyal to the Soil" marketing push when it comes to recruiting local high school talent.

In the case of David Schwerzel, a 6-foot-4, 240-pound edge rusher from Seattle's O'Dea High School, the Huskies are pursuing a seedling.

This past week, they offered a football scholarship to the fast-rising Class of 2026 prospect, adding to a growing list that also includes Michigan and Louisville.

That's right, Schwerzel has only a freshman year of high school football behind him and he has the Pac-12, Big Ten and ACC reaching out for a commitment.

Playing for a 10-2 O'Dea team, this pass rusher possesses overly impressive size for a ninth-grader, plus he moves well.

Unrated because he's so young, Schwerzel is one of several high-end recruits for the Fighting Irish, who continue to place kids with scholarships at Power 5 schools.

After receiving the UW offer, he seemed interested enough in entertaining thoughts of playing for the Huskies.

"To have the opportunity to play in front of my home state is such a honor!" Schwerzel tweeted. "More motivation to keep grinding!"
