Huskies Offer Texas DL Not to be Confused with NFL Executive

Omar Khan, not heavily recruited yet, hails from Houston area.

Omar Khan is a big football name. For the past year, he's been the general manager of the Pittsburgh Steelers, entrusted with returning the NFL franchise to its previous glory.

Apparently no relation to the executive, Omar Khan also describes a  6-foot-5, 270-pound defensive tackle for Bridgeland High School in Cypress, Texas, located in the northwestern suburbs of Houston.

This younger Khan's reputation is just beginning to circulate through the college football recruiting ranks as a Class of 2024 prospect.

On Feb. 25, this nimble Texan, who doubles as a heavyweight wrestler, was named defensive-line MVP at a You Are Athlete football camp.

Two days later, this Bridgeland Bear received a scholarship offer from the California Bears.

On Monday, University of Washington recruiters reached out to Khan with their own scholarship proposal.

To hear Kalen DeBoer tell it, the Huskies rely heavily on their own customized evaluation process used for singling out prospective talent, to the point other college programs have taken notice and begun looking closer at the UW's targeted players.

Examples are the Parker twins, Jayvon and Armon, from Michigan, defensive tackles who weren't highly recruited yet will play a lot in the seasons ahead, plus Houston cornerback Jaivion Green, who likewise didn't hold a ton of offers but appeared in nine games as a freshman last fall.

In his junior highlight reel for a 6-5 yet playoff-bound Bridgeport team, Khan comes off the line very quickly inside and uses his hands well to get into opposing backfields. Those are traits that turned another Texan, Levi Onwuzurike, an All-Pac-12 player for the Huskies.

While the fully mature football recruits nationally get most of the attention in this process, it's players similar to Khan, now just building size and strength, who can become key additions to a program such as the UW.

Texas remains an important recruiting area for the Huskies, who have offered at least 10 players from that state since appearing in the Alamo Bowl in late December.
