In this story:

By definition, a Seraph is a celestial or angelic being, which is what the typically hyperbolic recruiting analysts are beginning to call Drew Cofield.

He's a 6-foot-1, 160-pound cornerback and Class of 2025 recruit who plays for the St. Bonaventure High Seraphs in Ventura, California.

Cofield is one of the better ones who is walking around with a halo hovering over his helmets and shoulder pads.

He comes off a sophomore season in which he came up with 40 tackles, 9 passes break-ups, 4 interceptions that included a pick six and 3 blocked field goals for his 7-4 football team.

On Thursday, all of that production and subsequent auditioning helped lead to a University of Washington football scholarship offer, his fifth along with Arizona, BYU, Colorado State and San Jose State.

In Cofield's finest moment last fall, he stole a pass and raced 73 yards for a touchdown to give his team a late 21-14 lead over Bishop Diego.

It proved to be a game-winner as Cofield and the Seraph defense won this game 21-20 when they stopped a two-point conversion with 15 seconds remaining.

Cofield, so big and fast for his position, has impressed the scouts while making the rounds of the offseason recruiting events, as Eric Sondheimer of the Los Angeles Times reports.

As a 10th-grader, he was named first-team, all-conference in the Marmonte League, which was just a start for this corner bound to attract a lot of attention.
