In this story:

Kalen DeBoer presents himself in a a fairly even-keel manner whenever seated in front of media members and a bank of cameras.

It's one of the strengths for this University of Washington football coach — to be cool under fire, no matter the situation.

However, if DeBoer ever showed a tinge of frustration on the Husky job, where his voice raised and his expression changed, it was when Ohio State flipped his committed quarterback Lincoln Kienholz at the last minute in December.

DeBoer talked about what a scholarship commitment means to him and later mentioned that other schools, noting the success of him and his staff, have begun taking a closer look at the players they're grading and recruiting.

Which brings everyone to quarterback EJ Caminong from Seattle's Garfield High School, who in late October gave his oral pledge to the hometown Huskies.

On Friday, Texas A&M offered a scholarship to the 6-foot-2, 195-pound Caminong, who's a Class of 2024 recruit.

While Caminong seems to enjoy the fact he's an impact commit for DeBoer and the UW — not only a local recruit, but a local QB — the fact an SEC team now has reached out to him has to be really flattering if not tempting.

Playing in the vaunted SEC over the resetting Pac-12 has to be a selling point.

A drawback for Caminong to consider would be passing up a chance to play for the Huskies' Ryan Grubb, who is not only considered an elite offensive coordinator nationally but earlier rejected overtures from Texas A&M to change jobs.

Not heavily recruited, Caminong currently holds offers from Colorado, Oregon State, Texas A&M, Washington and Washington State. Yet that list should grow significantly before he's officially signed by someone.

With its high-octane offense, the UW stands to become a destination program for quarterbacks everywhere, with touted 6-foot-6, 220-pound Austin Mack from Folsom, California, reclassifying and arriving for fall camp and Caminong supposedly not far behind.

For now, the Huskies should take this situation as a back-handed compliment, that others recognize their ability to ferret out talent and want their prospective QB from the neighborhood.

Lose Caminong to A&M, and DeBoer and Company rightfully should feel disrespected once more.
