Husky TE Target Decker DeGraaf Has A High Ceiling

In this story:
With both Jack Westover and Devin Culp slated to leave after the 2023 season, Washington needs to reload the depth at tight end. The coaching staff seems high on Cal Poly transfer Josh Cuevas, as well as 2022 four-star Ryan Otton.
While the Huskies will almost certainly hit the transfer portal once again at the end of the year for a tight end, it's also important to bring in high school prospects at the position. It appears for the class of 2024, the coaching staff has zeroed in on three-star tight end Decker DeGraaf from California's Glendora High School as that prospect.
Currently ranked as the 679th overall player in the country for his class, the 6-foot-4, 230-pound tight end looks like he could be a complete player at the next level. He currently holds 16 offers and has scheduled official visits to Arkansas, Michigan State and Utah, as well as Washington over the month of June.

When DeGraaf gets on the field at the college level, he's going to make a quick impact as a security blanket for his quarterback. He lines up all over the formation and is not only a proficient route runner, but he's also not afraid to take a few hits when going across the middle of the field.
While contact is no issue, he's usually the one laying people out, with or without the ball in his hands. His size makes him hard to bring down at the high school level and he possesses enough speed to outrun most defenders.
He also displays great power as a run blocker, as he uses exceptional leg drive to move linebackers and defensive linemen out of the play. As he continues to develop as a blocker, DeGraaf looks like he could be an impactful player in the run game as well.

I've followed the Huskies for my entire life, and to be in a position where I get to cover them full-time is nothing short of an honor. After graduating from Lasell University in 2019, I moved to Seattle to pursue my dream of working in sports media. While writing for the Husky Haul, I also covered local sports for the Everett Daily Herald before the COVID-19 pandemic. After being hired by Realdawg.com in February of 2021, I also transitioned into doing a lot of entertainment writing, as I work on a variety of magazines as a contributing writer for Centennial Media, and have also contributed to Emmy Magazine, as well as Walt Disney Television Studios.
