In this story:

Knee deep into Kalen DeBoer's third recruiting class for the University of Washington football program, it seemed like a good time to take a closer look at the ingredients on the box.

It this were indeed food, the Huskies would have mostly a California flavor with a hint of Northwest, Midwest and Southwest spices simmering on the stove.

To date, DeBoer has signed and received verbal commitments from 41 high school players in his time in Montlake, now 20 months and counting, who now hail from 11 states.

The breakdown on the talent grab from these different hot spots goes like this: California 20 players, Washington 6, Texas 4, Arizona 3, Michigan 2 and Oregon, Ohio, Minnesota, Nevada, Louisiana and Colorado 1 each.

For those who prefer a largely locally produced Husky football team for purely sentimental reasons, you're going to be mildly perturbed — the latest returns figure out to 14.6 percent of those guys who were made in the home state.

For those want to make a serious run at a national championship, this footprint most certainly is going to need to get wider as the Huskies try to go farther east and south for able bodies.

Note the player pick-ups in Michigan, Ohio and Minnesota, which is Big Ten country. Will the Huskies ultimately end up housed in that conference, following the lead of USC and UCLA? Or just try to beat the high and mighty with its own talent?

As far as the SEC, the Huskies have just one Louisiana-honed player, cornerback Curly Reed, from that Southern-tinged football breeding ground.
