Top Husky Target Kingston Lopa Is A Unique Player

In this story:
There aren't a lot of football players in the country like Grant Union High School safety Kingston Lopa. The one-time Arizona commit from Sacramento, California, might remind a lot of college football and NFL Draft enthusiasts of former Clemson linebacker and 2020's eighth overall pick Isaiah Simmons.
Lopa recently earned his fourth star from the 247 Sports Composite and appears to be very high on the Washington coaching staff's list of defensive targets. The 6-foot-5, 190-pound prospect has reportedly scheduled an official visit to Montlake for the weekend of June 23, which will end up being the most important recruiting weekend of the summer for the staff.
The biggest question surrounding his recruitment is where does he fit best at the college level? During his time in high school, Lopa has seen action at cornerback, safety and linebacker, but is probably too big to play cornerback going forward.
On film, Lopa looks like he could fit very well in the Washington defense at the Husky position. He loves to come downhill and deliver big hits on ball carriers while displaying great eyes and a high football IQ.
The Husky coaching staff has put a clear emphasis on recruiting both linebacker and safety in 2024 and, if it's able to secure someone who can do both such as Lopa, that's an opportunity any staff would jump at 10 times out of 10.
While it's unreasonable to compare Lopa to Simmons, he can bring an impressive amount of versatility to any defense and could be used all over the formation.
While at Clemson, Simmons lined up everywhere from outside cornerback to edge rusher and, if he can bulk up to somewhere around 230 pounds while retaining his athleticism, it's hard to see Lopa not filling a similar role at the college level.

I've followed the Huskies for my entire life, and to be in a position where I get to cover them full-time is nothing short of an honor. After graduating from Lasell University in 2019, I moved to Seattle to pursue my dream of working in sports media. While writing for the Husky Haul, I also covered local sports for the Everett Daily Herald before the COVID-19 pandemic. After being hired by Realdawg.com in February of 2021, I also transitioned into doing a lot of entertainment writing, as I work on a variety of magazines as a contributing writer for Centennial Media, and have also contributed to Emmy Magazine, as well as Walt Disney Television Studios.
