UW Could Bring Third Mississippi State Transfer In For a Visit

A Bulldogs cornerback is in the portal, looking for a place to land.

The Washington Huskies will host a large number of transfer portal prospects over the weekend, including quarterback Will Rogers and running back Jo'Quavious "Woody" Marks from Mississippi State University.

After pulling running back Dillon Johnson out of the transfer portal from the SEC school in January, coach Kalen DeBoer's staff has shown that former Bulldogs can have success in Seattle and is pushing hard to secure commitments from both Marks and Rogers in the coming days. 

With needs on the defensive side too, the coaching staff could turn to former Mississippi State cornerback Decamerion Richardson to help boost the secondary. Richardson is one of the best defensive backs available in the portal and appears to be open to moving to the West Coast.

He had an official visit at the University of Oregon on Wednesday, according to Max Torres of Ducks Digest, and might be persuaded to consider Washington before the early signing period opens on December 20.

With Johnson on the Husky roster, Richardson and the others from Mississippi State have a direct connection for obtaining insights and likely positive reviews from the former Bulldog running back.

Richardson, with a year of eligibility remaining, probably will be asked to step in and start at his new school before entering his name in the NFL draft. He finished a highly productive career at Mississippi State with 177 tackles, 10 pass break-ups and 1 sack, but has yet to come up with an interception.

He was also credited with an 86.5 grade in coverage from Pro Football Focus and was ranked as the fourth-best cornerback in the SEC by the analytics site. 

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Richardson has the size and physical prowess to play man coverage on the outside and would be a ready fit for Washington's secondary, which frequently asks cornerbacks to play in what amounts to an island.

Johnson's connection with his former Mississippi State teammate could hold the key to securing his commitment, but first the coaching staff has to find a way to get him on campus.
