It's a strategic move to offer scholarships to just about everyone who fits a desired University of Washington recruiting profile.

In that way, with so much player movement in college football these days, the Huskies have some sort of relationship with all of the top guys, especially out West.

This explains why the UW has extended full rides to at least nine different high school quarterbacks since appearing in the Alamo Bowl against Texas in late December.

The latest is Tayden Kaawa, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound freshman and 2026 prospect from Moanalua High School in Honolulu — and the second in recent days from the Hawaiian Islands.

In Kaawa, they zeroed in on a young kid who had a lot of success even in the face of a team downturn at Moanalua.

The ninth-grader and his teammates suffered through a 2-7-1 season in which his Menehunes lost to Millilani 56-0, Campbell 51-15 and Kahuku 60-7.

Even with those struggles, Kaawa completed 147 of 295 passes for 1,660 yards and 13 touchdowns, with a whopping 16 interceptions.

He also holds scholarship offers from Oregon, Hawaii and BYU, with no doubt others to come.
