UW Offers SoCal Cornerback Who Brings Right Attitude to Game

In this story:
After quarterback, the position next in recruiting demand is cornerback. As the University of Washington football team so often demonstrated this past season, both spots can have more influence on the outcome of a game than any other, good and bad.
It all comes down to touchdown passes going over someone's head — and who's going to either make it happen or stop it.
That said, the Huskies this week made a scholarship offer to an intriguing corner in Jaylen'Dai Sumlin, who stands a good-sized 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds and hails from Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth, California.
Sumlin from the Class of 2024 is one of those players who's just turning up in everyone's recruiting reports and getting film review. He holds other offers from Oregon, Oregon State, Arizona and UNLV, and he brings the right attitude.
"I love the excitement of the game," he told recruitingnewsguru.com. "Since I was a kid, I have been watching my brother play. I just love the feeling of playing football."
After a great conversation with @CoachMorrell3 I am extremely blessed and honored to receive an offer from THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON!!💜 #PurpleReign #GoHuskies @KalenDeBoer @UW_Football @GregBiggins @adamgorney @ChadSimmons_ @BrandonHuffman @RWrightRivals @MohrRecruiting pic.twitter.com/9b0zeAX05m

Yet Sumlin and his teammates had to suffer mightily this past season before they could enjoy its rewards.
Coming from Bishop Alemany High, Sumlin was one of several transfer players for Sierra Canyon and his team did not mesh well at all in the beginning.
The Trailblazers opened the season 2-4 before putting together an eight-game winning streak, which included three playoff victories, and they finished 10-5.
Sumlin played reasonably well, coming up with 27 tackles, a tackle for loss, a sack, a pass break-up and an interception. His pass theft ended a 29-23 playoff win over Bishop Amat.
Doubling up as a wide receiver, he caught 10 balls for 126 yards and 2 scores.
Since the Alamo Bowl, the Huskies have offered scholarships to nearly three-dozen recruits as they blanket the talent in the 2024 class.
