Joshua Holland is just getting started with his college football recruitment at Southern California's St. John Bosco High School powerhouse, but he plays a position and wears a number, or at least part of one, that warrants a long look.

This past fall, Holland briefly took the field as a cornerback for a Braves varsity defense that featured standout linebacker Deven Bryant, who signed with the University of Washington and recently arrived early in Montlake and took part in spring practice.

This week, Holland received his own Husky scholarship offer, his second overall following one from hometown USC.

This defensive back wears No. 2 in a Bosco blue jersey, which, of course, reminds of vaunted school alum Trent McDuffie, who began wearing 22 at the UW to honor his deceased brother while becoming an All-Pac-12 cornerback and first-round draft pick, and just reclaimed those digits with the Kansas City Chiefs when a veteran teammate moved on.

The 6-foot-2, 165-pound Holland and Class of 2026 prospect was just a ninth-grader when he appeared in two varsity games for the 13-1 Braves last fall and was credited with a pair of tackles.

The offseason camp circuit that runs nonstop through California is where this kid has seen his recruiting stock soar in recent months as coaches get a close-up look at his speed and size.

If Holland put in his order now, he could probably have No. 22 waiting for him in Seattle, or No. 2 if insists on it, when it's time for him to play his college ball.
